Financed and purchased a dormant landfill permit in Cherokee, AL. Developed the buildout of the landfill facility infrastructure and first disposal cells and grew it to 300,000 annual tons in 3 years.
Cold start landfill rollup in a very mature industry.
Sourced financing to buy Cherokee Industrial LF and consolidated the market thru a privatization and sale leaseback with three local municipalities.
Assets grew to include three locations – Cherokee Landfill, Shoals Transfer Station (MSW) and the CWI Transfer HSV (Huntsville Transfer Station – pledged to the financing structure).
Project became unsustainable as local municipal partners refused to accept leachate from the landfill (PFAS related).
Project was litigated for over two years.
Local governments purchased leasehold interest from company in settlement as company waived all of its claims against the municipalities (Cherokee Industrial Landfill and Shoals Transfer Station).
Built new landfill facility, leased and operated existing transfer station (Shoals – MSW) and built and started new transfer station in Huntsville.
Consolidated local market after Shoals SWDA Landfill closed. Consolidated 220,000 tons per year to landfill locally and another 80,000 tons per year from Huntsville Transfer Station.
Initial capitalization of project was $7.2 million with final sale to municipalities and others (HSV) valued over $35 million.
Received multiple permit modifications including service area change, landfill footprint redesign, and leachate post treatment effluent discharge.
